Piyara Dosto,

Washington Sindhi community with the help of SANA members (Aziz Narejo, Ali Nawaz Memon, Sarfraz Memon, Zahid Shaikh and Iqbal Tareen) is arranging an luncheon event (every one pays for own lunch) to meet Mr. Mustafa Talpur in Washington DC on Sunday, October 21, 2007 at 1:00 PM. The venue of the meeting will be Sadaf Restaurant in Rockville (see directions below). This is a great opportunity to learn about the destruction of LBOD first-hand from the person who filed the official complaint with the World Bank Inspection Panel.

Mr. Talpur is one of the heroes of the people of Badin, Thatta, and other districts of lower Sindh for spearheading campaign to draw the world attention to this terrible tragedy suffered by Sindhis. Mr. Talpur led the effort to lodge a formal complaint with the World Bank Inspection Panel. About a year ago, the Inspection panel issued it's findings blaming the World Bank officials, international contractors, WAPDA, and Pakistan Government for violating the World Bank rules and not conducting pre-requisite environmental assessment studies.

For more details see the DAWN ariticle (Read here) and an IRN summary (Read here)

Mr. Talpur is visiting Washington , DC at the invitation of the International Rivers Network (IRN) to speak at a seminar in Washington , DC on the accountability of the International Financial Institutions. He would also be meeting the European Executive Directors of the World Bank to give a presentation on the LBOD requesting an immediate action on their part.

Please join us if you in the Washington DC and learn from Mr. Talpur as to why World Bank is still failing the people of lower Sindh.
